Kosher dill pickles are among the most popular side dishes for meals. In the US, they are often used as food seasonings for burgers and other sandwiches. They are very tasty that people soon started making them at home to satisfy their daily cravings for such preserved vegetable. While some may have known how to make dill pickles, others would rather look online to learn some kosher dill pickle recipes.

Kosher dill pickles are made by adding a considerable amount of garlic and dill weeds to the brine-soaked cucumbers. These spices are essential for making the pickles tangier. The cucumbers are then allowed to ferment for about three to six days in jars, or until they tasted sour. It is interesting to note that kosher dill pickles have the “full-sour” and “half-sour” varieties. These pickles are simply classified according to their flavor, texture and duration of the pickling process.

The kosher dill pickle recipes that you may find in the internet are not actually “koshered” food; rather, they are those recipes that are patterned after the traditional way in which they are being produced by the Jewish pickle makers in New York. The name may also refer to the coarse salt that is being used for the brine.

There are many uses for kosher dill pickles in food preparation. For example, they can be added to salads and sandwiches. Also, they can be eaten alone sliced or fried. There are just so many delicious dishes that could be made out of dill pickles. Aside from being tasty, dill pickles also have low calories. They are good sources of vitamin K1, which is a fat-soluble vitamin essential for the clotting of blood.

Below is the basic recipe for making kosher dill pickles that you can use for everyday servings:

Ingredients:

2 quarts water
3 tablespoons coarse kosher white salt
10 fresh cucumbers (regular size for pickling)
5 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
1 tablespoon pickling spice
3 bay leaves
¼ cup fresh dill weed

Heat the water on a pot and add the salt. Mix it thoroughly until the salt crystals are dissolved. Remove the pot from the stove.

Rinse the cucumbers. Have them closely packed inside the pickle jars.

Add the garlic, dill, pickling spice and bay leaves to the jampacked jars, making sure that they all get equal distribution. The pickling spice can be made by heating spices such as red pepper flakes, cinnamon, mustard and coriander seeds until they produce a flavorful aroma.

Fill the water with brine. Make sure that the cucumbers are completely submerged.

Seal the jars tightly and store them in a cool, dry place for about three to six days. You may keep them inside the refrigerator if the pickles are not yet to be used after they were fermented.

Other kosher dill pickle recipes are available online if you want to make more homemade dill pickles. Having them on stock will be advantageous for future use in food preparations. You can make pickle relishes out of them, or you may just fry them up with some breading on them.

Traditionally, pickles have been used as a major food accompaniment in every cuisine. Eaten directly or taken along with a main meal, they add a dash of zing and spice, enhancing the taste of the food. Mainly categorized as Asian and Western pickles, spicy pickle recipes originate from Asia, particularly from India. Considered to be the birthplace of pickles by many, it is regarded that Indian pickle recipes were carried to the world by explorers. Indian pickles receive their typical spicy tangy flavor from the mustard oil and variety of spices used in their preparation.

When Asian spicy pickles receive their taste from fermentation; western pickles are consumed more as fresh pickles. In western pickles green vegetables, fruits and sometimes even fish and meat are combined with vinegar, sugar, salt and sauces. Some of the popular western spicy pickle recipes include Dill Pickles, Bread and Butter Pickles, Kosher Dill Pickle, Hoagie Pickle, Sweet Cucumber, Hamburger Dill, Midget Gherkins Pickle and several more.

The hot garlic dill pickle is quite a favorite. Made with fresh cucumbers, fresh dill sprigs, jalapeno peppers, fresh grape leaves, whole peppercorn, peeled whole garlic cloves, pickling salt, white vinegar, water and crushed red pepper (an optional ingredient), this pickle is a winner all the way. If you want it hotter just add some more jalapenos.

Unlike western pickles, Asian spicy pickles are consumed in the form of preserved pickles. China, Japan, Korea and India, all have their indigenous style of pickle making. Not only are the recipes different, but the ingredients used are completely different too and unique to each of these countries. Kimchi a spicy Korean pickle made of cabbages and daikon radishes is quite a popular condiment across the world. While China is famous for Zha Cai and Chow Chow pickles, Japan is known for its spicy plum pickles.

Yet the hottest and the spiciest pickles come from Indian kitchens. In place of vinegar, mustard oil is the major ingredient of Indian pickles, which brings out their special flavor. Among the spices, use of salt, chili powder, ginger, garlic, hot pepper, and turmeric powder is really popular. Nearly every vegetable and fruit finds use in Indian pickles including rose petals.

Every cuisine has its own spicy pickle recipes. Each with its own unique method of preparation and ingredient, these pickles serve as perfect food accompaniments and also meals in themselves as in the case of western pickles.

It doesn’t have to be that hard to make pickles in fact there are many different easy pickle recipes. There are many different methods that are much faster than the old standby methods that your grandmother used to use to make pickles. Instead of messing around with brine and pickle salt and having to do all sorts of different work, there are methods that are much easier, and I will outline one below.

The first thing you’re going to need is to get yourself some very fresh cucumbers. You’re also going to need something called quick process pickling mix. You can find this at most natural food stores. You’re also going to need some clear vinegar. Obviously you’ll need your jars for the pickles as well.

The first step in easy pickle recipes, is to wash and slice your cucumbers. Now you are going to want to sterilize your pickle jars. You can do this by boiling them in hot water. You are also going to need to sterilize your lids as well. Now all you need to do is mix your vinegar with your pickling mix in a pot and bring to a boil. Now all you need to do is place your cucumber is into the jars and pour the hot pickling mix into the jars. Now all you need to do is seal up the jars with lids and rings and then boil them in hot water. Make sure that the jars have a good airtight seal by pressing down on the center of the lids and making sure that they do not move. Now all you need to do is store them in a cool dry place for two weeks and they will be very fresh crisp and delicious.

So as you can see making pickles does not need to be very complicated or hard. Give this one a try and we will update soon with more easy pickle recipes.

Pickled green beans are a great way to enjoy crisp fresh green beans four weeks after your harvest. The recipe below is a really good one. I made pickled green beans with this recipe last year and they came out great. Make sure that you have clean sterilized jars and airtight lids ready to go. This recipe should fill six ½ pint jars.

Here are the ingredients fro making Pickled Green Beans:

2 cups water

¼ cup salt

one bunch of fresh dillweed

one garlic

2 ½ cups distilled white vinegar

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

2 ½ pounds of fresh

The first thing you’re going to need to do is to sterilize your six jars, rings, and lids. You can do this by boiling them for five minutes in water. Make sure that you keep them hot. So that they are just a little bit shorter than the size of the jars that you are using.

Now get out your large saucepan and add the vinegar, water, and salt. Now add your garlic and bring the mixture to a boil on high heat. In your jars which are still hot from being sterilized, place one sprig of dill and a tiny pinch of red pepper flakes into each jar. Now place the green beans up right in the jars.

Now fill your jar is with the boiling brine that you just made. Fill the jars so that they almost completely cover the green beans, but don’t totally submerge them. Now seal your jars with your lids and rings. Take the jars and place them in a hot water bath so that they are covered by 1 inch of water. Simmer the jars for 10 minutes so that they can process. After the jars cool test to see if they have a good seal. You can do this by pressing down on the center of the lid. If it does not move at all than you have ensured a good seal. If any jars do not seal properly be sure to refrigerate them immediately. Now all you have to do is let your pickled green beans ferment for up to 2 to 3 weeks before enjoying them.

Believe it or not I hadn’t tried pickled asparagus until last year. Funny thing is I never really thought of it. My aunt had some over at her house and I tried them and they were delicious. So she gave me her recipe and now I’m going to give it to you guys.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make pickled asparagus:

2 Sprigs of Dill

one slice the onion, slice the onion in rings

½ teaspoon of chili pepper

1 teaspoon of coarse salt

1 teaspoon mustard seed

two thirds a cup of sugar

1 2/3 cups of distilled white vinegar

2 quarts cold water

30 asparagus spears

This recipe will fill 2 1 pint jars.

The first thing you’re going to need to do is cut the end of the asparagus spears into 3 inch lengths. Place them in a bowl and cover them with water and one third of a cup of salt. Leave the asparagus in for around two hours. After two hours to drain the bowl and rinse the asparagus with cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

Sterilize to jars and lids by boiling them in water for at least five minutes. Make sure the jars are still hot before adding your asparagus.

Now take out your saucepan and put the vinegar, sugar, 1 teaspoon of coarse salt, mustard seed, onion rings, and dill seed. Now bring everything to a boil and let it boil for two minutes.

Now put your asparagus with the tips facing up inside your font sterilize jars leaving ½ inch of space from the rim of the jar. Put one dill sprig into each jar and a dash of your chili powder. Now what you want to do is pour your hot pickling liquid into the jars. Fill the jars up to ¼ inch from the top. Now make sure your rims are clean and seal the jars with your rims and lids. Place your jars in boiling water that is 1 inch above the top of the jar. Boil for 10 minutes.

Now once the jars are cool check to make sure you have a good seal. You can do this by pressing down on the middle of the lid. If it does not move then you have a good seal but if it does move make sure you refrigerate immediately. Now store your jars in a cool dark place. In a few weeks you’ll now have delicious pickled asparagus.

There is nothing like the succulent taste of crispy bread and butter pickles. Below I have included my favorite recipe for bread and butter pickles. I make these every year and they always come out just great.

Here are the ingredients for making bread and butter pickles:

six sliced cucumbers

3 cups distilled white vinegar

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon of mustard seed

six small onions sliced

¾ teaspoon ground turmeric

1/3 cup coarse salt

1 teaspoon celery seed

These are really easy to make so there aren’t too many directions. The first thing you’re going to want to do is combine the onions, mustard seed, celery seed, and turmeric in a large pan.

Now in a different pan combine the salt, vinegar, and sugar. Now bring to a boil and then pour the boiling mixture into your pan with your onion mixture.

Now add your cucumber slices and pack everything into sterile jars leaving ¼ inch space from the top of the lid. Make sure you refrigerate for two weeks before eating. Now all you have to do is enjoy the best bread and butter pickles you have ever tasted.

It also insures the freshest and best possible tasting pickles that you can have.

With so many different types of pickles out there, obviously there are lots of different pickle recipes. You can make the classic dill pickles, or bread and butter pickles. Or you can get adventurous and try to make calico pickles or cantolupe pickles. Half the fun of making your own pickles is experimenting with different ingredients and flavors. I mean you can even make Apple pickles.

No matter what type of pickles you want to make we have all the pickle recipes that you will need to find. We will be adding to our list of recipes every single week. So make sure you check back often to see what’s coming up next.

I recently just opened up a jar of bread-and-butter pickles that I made. I really am becoming better at making pickles because these were some of the best ones ever tasted. It also helps that I got the cucumbers from my garden. You always want your ingredients to be as fresh as possible. I made these bread and butter pickles one hour after I picked the cucumbers. If you don’t have your own garden check out a local farmers market. Or depending on what time of year it is, sometimes the supermarkets can get some pretty fresh produce.

You’re also going to need some good jars with lids, and a cool dry place to store them. Pickling salt is also a key ingredient when manufacturing pickles. There are many more things you can buy, but the things I just listed are definitely necessities. The only other thing that you need is some really good pickle recipes.

So whether you’re new to the hobby of making pickles or you are an old pro at it, there are always new things to try and taste. If you just follow the directions carefully and take your time, you will be enjoying fresh pickles at home for years to come.
